Jon Thor “Jonsi” Birgisson, by name Jonsi, born on April 23rd, 1975 is an Icelandic musician. He is the guitarist and vocalist for the post-rock band Sigur Ros. Jonsi also performs with his partner Alex Somers and they call their art collaboration Jonsi & Alex. In November 2006, they released their first self-titled book along with a first album, Riceboy Sleeps in July 2009. Jonsi released his first solo album GO in April 2010 with his label XL. The album ranked 20 on the U.K Album Charts and 23 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
Soon after this release, he went on a worldwide tour across North America and Europe and released Go Live, a record of his live tour in November 2010. Jonsi worked on songwriting for films such as How To Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. His work led him to collaborate with Cameron Crowe on the soundtrack of the film We Bought a Zoo in 2011.
He returned to his band and issued Valtari in 2012, and Kveikur in 2013. In 2018, Jonsi restarted his solo career and collaborated with artists such as Troye Sivan and the Swedish composer Carl Michael von Hausswolff. His second solo album Shiver came in 2020.
