Jorge Drexler is a Uruguayan musician, actor, and doctor born in Montevideo, Uruguay on September 21, 1964. While in medical school, Drexler took a break from school to hitchhike through Brazil and studied music and recorded two albums. In 1992 he released the album La Luz Que Sabe Robar and has since released the albums Radar, Vaivén, Llueve, Frontera, Sea, Eco, 12 Segundos de Oscuridad, La Edad del Ciolo, Cara B, Amar la Trama, Bailer en la Cueva, and Salvavidas de Hielo. Drexler has released his music and albums through the labels Ayui, Virgin, and Warner. In 2004 he became the first Uruguayan to Win an Academy Award. He has also won numerous other awards, including five ASCAP Latin Awards, a Goya Award, five Latin Grammy Awards and more.
