Joshua Bell is an American violinist, born on December 9, 1967, in Bloomington, Indiana. He began playing the violin at age four and first played at Carnegie Hall when he was seventeen years old. Throughout his career, he has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, conductor, and director. He won a Grammy Award for his recording of Nicholas Maw's violin concerto. He has also received Mercury, Gramophone, and OPUS KLASSIK awards. As Sony Classical artist, he has recorded more than 40 albums, including Romance of the Violin, which topped the Billboard Classical chart. Joshua has performed on multiple film soundtracks, including Oscar-winning The Red Violin, Ladies in Lavender, Music of the Heart, and collaborated with film composer Hans Zimmer for the soundtrack of the film Angels & Demons, based on Dan Brown's 2000 novel of the same name.
