Joy Crookes is a British singer and songwriter. She was born Joy Elizabeth Akther Crookes on the 9th of October, 1998 in Lambeth, South London, England. Her family has origins in Bangladesh and Ireland. Her interest in music started in her teenage years and she started attending jazz singing lessons around 13. During that time she also started playing guitar and piano. In 2013, Crookes uploaded to YouTube a cover of “Hit The Road Jack” by Ray Charles, which gained the attention of over 600 000 viewers. In 2016, she released her debut official single “New Manhattan”, soon followed by “Sinatra”. Her debut EP “Influence” produced by Insanity Records and Speakerbox was released in 2017 and it was a critics success. She has appeared in several magazines like Vogue and she has given interviews for BBC. In 2020, she released the single “Anyone But Me” which debuted at the UK Asian Top 40.
