Juanita Stein is an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician born in Melbourne, Australia on June 25, 1977. She is best known for being the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the indie rock band Howling Bells. Stein’s first time in a recording studio was at five years old. She contributed vocals to one of her father’s songs. While in college, she wrote and played music. In 1999 she started the band Waikiki with her brother Joel. They released their debut EP Presents in 2000. In 2002 they released their debut studio album titled I’m Already Home. The group disbanded in 2004. The members moved to London and re-formed under the name Howling Bells. Together they have released the albums Howling Bells, Radio Wars, The Loudest Engine, and Heartstrings. In 2012 Juanita started working on a solo album and started recording it in Los Angeles in 2015. She released her debut solo album in 2017 titled America and followed it up in 2018 with her second album titled Until the Lights Fade.
