Julian Joseph was born Julian Raphael Nathaniel Joseph in London, the United Kingdom on May 11, 1966. He is known for his accomplishments in advancing Jazz music in the United Kingdom. In 1991, he released his first album The Language of Truth. Joseph performed at the Wigmore Hall in London, and he was the first Black British jazz musician to host a series at the venue. He received commissions from the London Jazz Festival, the Hackney Music Development Trust, BBC, and the City of London Festival. He is known for his dance works and operas which includes 2007’s Bridgetower and 2012’s The Brown Bomber. In 2013, he founded his music academy, the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy. In 2018, he published his first book Music of Initiative.
