Julie Maurine Foudy, known as Julie Foudy, is an American former soccer player and sports commentator who played as a midfielder in the top US Women’s soccer league. She was born on January 23, 1971, in San Diego, California, and spent her formative years playing soccer for the Stanford Cardinals.
Julie played as a midfielder in the top US Women’s soccer league and played professionally for Sacramento Storm and San Diego Spirit. She also played for the US national women’s soccer team for 16 years, from 1988 to 2004, captaining the side for several years. During her career, she won two World Cups and two Olympic gold medals with the national team.
After retiring from soccer in 2004, Foudy turned to sports broadcasting and became a commentator on various TV shows such as Mike & Mike, SportsCenter, and Golic and Wingo. She also served as a reporter and analyst for ESPN and ABC during the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
In addition to her work as a commentator, Foudy has been an advocate for women’s sports and gender equity in sports.
