Junkie XL is a Dutch DJ, composer and music producer. He was born Thomas Holkenborf on the 8th of December, 1967, in Lichtenvoorde, Gelderland, Netherlands. He started his musical career in the 1980s by joining the ensemble Weekend at Waikiki as a musician and producer. He toured around Europe and the Soviet Union from the late 1980s to 1991. In 1997, he released his debut album “Saturday Teenage Kick”. From 1999 to 2012, he released five more studio albums including “Booming Back at You”. The album contained several collaborations with artists like Lauren Rocket and Electrocute. Holkenborg is also known for his work as a soundtrack movie composer. He has collaborated with Hans Zimmer in several movie soundtracks, like Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Madagascar” and “Megamind”. He was nominated at the 2008 Grammy Awards in the category Best Remixed Recording for his remix of Madonna’s “4 Minutes”.
