Encarnita García de Jesús, popularly known as Kany García, is a singer-songwriter born in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico on September 25, 1982. She began studying classical music at a very young age, achieving a high level of mastery in voice, cello, and music theory. At age 13, she entered the prestigious Escuela Libre de Música, but quickly dropped out after a few years to pursue songwriting. In 2004, she auditioned for the television show Objectivo: Fama and successfully got in. However, she wasn’t able to participate in the show after being involved in a car accident. Years later, she was signed into Sony BMG and in 2007, she released her debut album, Cualquier Día. The album reached number 10 on the albums chart, and was awarded Best Pop Vocal Album by the Latin Grammys in 2018. The Academy also gave her that year’s Best New Artist award. Since then, she has released five other albums, all well-received sales and reviews-wise.
