Karsh Kale, born Utkarsha Kale on November 1st, 1974 in West Bromwich, England is an Indian-American music and record producer, songwriter, film composer, and DJ. He moved to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 3. His musical journey began when his father introduced him to a broad range of music as a young child. He listened to traditional Indian music, classic rock, and hip-hop.
In 2000 Karsh joined Zakir Hussain, Talvin Singh, Trilok Gurtu, and Sultan Khan to form the group Tabla Beat Science. The group fused Hindi music, Asian underground ambient music, drum and bass, and electronic music. In the same year the group released their project entitled Tala Matrix. The album is considered to be one of the single most influential Asian Fusion albums of all time.
In 1999 Karsh also began recording as a solo artist. He released his first EP, Classical Science Fiction from India, in 2000. He then signed to the label Six Degree Records. In 2001 he released his debut studio album, Realize. In 2003 he released the follow up album called Liberation. 2006 saw Karsh’s third solo album, Broken English, released to critical success. He followed up with his next two studio releases in 2007 and 2011 entitled Breathing Under Water and Cinema.
