Karyn Layvonne White is a contemporary RnB singer and songwriter born on October 14, 1965, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She toured with RnB vocalist O'Bryan in 1984. After her vocals on instrumentalist Jeff Lorber's Facts of Life, Warner Bros offered her a recording deal. Karyn released her self-titled debut album in 1988 with production by L.A. Reid and Babyface.
It sold more than two million copies with three No. 1 RnB singles, The Way You Love Me, Superwoman, and Love Saw It. She won the No. 1 R&B Single of the Year for Superwoman at the 1989 Billboard Music Awards. Grammy Awards nominated her for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1989. Likewise, Soul Train Awards nominated her for Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced her 1991 album Ritual of Love. Her discography includes The Way You Love Me (Remixes), Carpe Diem Seize the Day, Rhino Hi-Five: Karyn White, and Make Him Do Right. She has appeared on The Jimmy Star Show with Ron Russell, Flashback Tonight, Life After, and Dishing Tea with Big Meech.
