Katie Melua is a Georgia-born British singer and songwriter who was born on September 16th 1984 in Kutaisi, Georgia. Her father was a heart surgeon and they lived in Tbilisi and Batumi before they moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Melua’s debut album Call Off the Search was a mighty hit, selling over 300,000 units in the UK, topping charts and eventually certified Platinum. The album dropped in November 2003 under Dramatico Records and was produced by Mike Batt. Two years later, she released Piece by Piece (2005) which was also produced by Mike Batt. Piece by Piece helped Katie become the best-selling female musician in the UK at the time, drawing upon artists like Kate Bush, Eva Cassidy and Joni Mitchell.
In 2010 she teamed up with producer William Orbit to release her electronic-infused The House. In 2016 she collaborated with Gori Women’s Choir to release In Winter.
