Katie Taylor Bio

Katie Taylor was born in Bray, County Wicklow on July 2, 1986.  She debuted as a boxer in 2001, winning her first match in the National Stadium in Dublin. Her first major achievement was winning the 2005 European Amateur Championships in the 60kg class.

In 2006, she won the World Women’s Boxing Championship. The next year, she won her third European Women’s Championship title. In 2008, she received the International Boxing Association Female Boxer of the Year.

She defended her title in the 2009 Women’s European Union Amateur Boxing Championship. The next year, she defended her Women’s World Boxing Championship title. She retained the title AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2014 and 2016.

She took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics where she took home a bronze medal. She made it to the quarterfinals of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
