Keith David Bio

American actor Keith David Williams, known as Keith David by the general population, was born on June 4, 1956 in Harlem, New York City. At a very young age, he discovered his love for acting after he played the Cowardly Lion in their school’s Wizard of Oz production. He then went on to study at New York’s High School of the Performing Arts and then at Juilliard. After he graduated, he was able to score a role in a production of Coriolanus opposite Christopher Walken. In 1992, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical by the Tony Awards for his work in the Broadway play Jelly’s Last Jam. In 1982, he made his big screen debut with The Thing, and in 1983 to 1985, he played the role of Keith the Handyman in the television show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. He won three Primetime Emmy awards for his voice work in three different projects, namely Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson (2004), The War (2007), and Jackie Robinson (2016).
