Kenny Ortega, whose full birth name is Kenny John Ortega, is an American filmmaker and choreographer who was born on April 18, 1950, in Palo Alto, California. He began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor when he appeared in the theater plays “Oliver!” and “Hair”. Soon after he began his career as a choreographer and has worked with The Tubes, Cher, and Kiss in his early years.
In 1980 he made his debut as a film choreographer on the movie “Xanadu” where he was mentored by Gene Kelly. He worked with John Hughes in films “Pretty in Pink” and “Dirty Dancing”. He also worked for Disney musicals “Newsies” in 1992 and “Hocus Pocus” in 1993 as well as the modern movies High School Musical trilogy and “The Cheetah Girls 2”. He reached the peak of his career when he started working with the king of pop Michael Jackson. Together they designed Dangerous World Tour during 1992 and 1993, HIStory World Tour during 1996 and 1997, and Michael Jackson and Friends in 1999.
