Kevin Gates Bio

Kevin Gilyard, who goes by the name Kevin Gates, was born on February 5, 1986, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He gained national attention when, in 2008, he released the single “Get in the Way” with a guest vocal from Lil Boosie. After serving a jail sentence until 2011, Kevin Gates came under the management of Young Money Entertainment – owned by Lil Wayne – and released his mixtape The Luca Brasi Story in 2013. He was recognized by Spin Magazine as one of the rappers to watch.

Kevin Gates was later signed to Atlantic Records, and released the album Stranger Than Fiction in the summer of 2013, featuring appearances by Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. He followed Stranger Than Fiction with the second album By Any Means in 2014, and that year, he was named by XXL Magazine as part of their Dirty Dozen Freshman Class of 2014. His sophomore album went to #17 on the Billboard 200 list the week it came out.
