Kirsten Simone Vangsness, known simply as Kirsten Vangsness, is an American actress born on July 7, 1972 in Pasadena, California. She began her acting career as a stage actress and has earned the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Natalie Schafer Award for best emerging comic actress, the 15 Minutes of Fem Best Actress Award, and a Garland Award for best actress. In 1998, she started appearing on on-screen projects such as Sometimes Santa’s Gotta Get Whacked (1998), Phil of the Future (2014), and LAX (2004). In 2005, Vangsness scored her big television break when she starred in Criminal Minds as Penelope Garcia. Throughout the duration of the series, she was able to co-write five episodes. She also appeared on the various video shorts made for the show and its spin-off entitled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2011).
