Kreator is a German metal band formed in 1982 in Essen, western Germany. It was originally named Tyrant, then changed to Tormentor before finally Kreator in 1982. The band was founded by vocalist/guitarist Mille Petrozza, bassist Rob Fioretti, and drummer Jürgen Reil (aka Ventor).
Their first two demo tapes Blitzkrieg (1983), and End of the World (1984) created a lot of buzz but it was released under their former name Tormentor. Their first album, 1985’s Endless Pain, was recorded in 10 ten days. Their second album Pleasure to Kill was released in 1986 and produced by Harris Johns. It was considered their first classic album. Kreator then released Flag of Hate EP in late 1986. Terrible Certainty was released in 1987 while Out of the Dark, Into the Light followed in August 1988.
1989’s Extreme Aggression was produced by well-regarded producer Randy Burns, and with the ubiquitous videos and lots of MTV exposure, the album quickly became a bestseller.
