Kristin Hersh Bio

Kristin Hersh is an American singer and songwriter who was born on August 7, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia. She began playing guitar when she was 9 years old. In 1981, she formed the band Throwing Muses with her best friend and step-sister Tanya Donelly, which became one of the most praised alternative rock bands in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The band released a total of five albums before Hersh took a break in 1992, and she started her solo career, releasing “Hips and Markers” as her debut album in 1994, and she released an EP titled “Strings” later that same year. Even with her solo career being successful, she stayed with Throwing Muses, who released their sixth album, “University”, in 1995. Later, Hersh formed the rock trio 50 Foot Wave with Throwing Muses’ bassist Bernard Georges. They began their career by releasing a series of EPs, and then Hersh returned to her solo career with “Learn to Sing Like a Star”.
