La Oreja de Van Gogh is a Spanish band that was formed in January 1996 in Donostia/San Sebastian, Euskadi, Spain. The founding members of the band were Pablo Benegas (guitarist), Alvaro Fuentes (bassist), Xabi San Martin (keyboardist) and drummer Hartiz Garde.
The band was formed at a local university although they later recruited the vocalist Amaia Montero. Their debut offering Dile al Sol was released in 1998 and it was a hit, topping charts and winning seven platinum certifications. Their sophomore outing El Viaje de Copperpot was released in 2000 and rose to become the biggest selling Spanish album in History. 2003’s Lo Que te Conte Mientra Te Hacías la Dormida included three hit #1 singles. The album itself was certified platinum in several countries and also gold in four others. Their 2016 release El Planeta Imaginario broke into the US Latin Albums Top Ten.
