La Sonora Dinamita is a musical group that originates from Cartagena, Colombia. The group has made significant contributions to the cumbia genre, a Tropical music style native to Colombia but celebrated throughout Latin America and beyond.
The genesis of La Sonora Dinamita dates back to 1960 in Cartagena de Indias, where it was formed under the leadership of bandleader Lucho Argaín. However, the original orchestra disbanded in 1963. The group saw a revival in 1975 under the direction of Julio Ernesto Estrada "Fruko" Rincón, the artistic director of the Discos Fuentes record label. Despite the changes, Lucho Argain remained the driving force behind the group, contributing numerous hits that have become timeless classics.
In 1981, La Sonora Dinamita achieved significant success with recordings such as the iconic "Mi Cucu." The group faced a significant loss in 2002 with the passing of its founder and frontman, Lucho Argaín. La Sonora Dinamita's discography is extensive, some of their notable albums include "La Copa De La Vida" (2019), "Juntos Por La Sonora" (2016), "Los Mechones" (2015), and "Exitos Tropicosos" (2015), to name a few.
