Laird Hamilton is a professional surfer, born on March 2, 1964, in San Francisco, California, USA. He is best known as an American big-wave surfer who rode the Teahupo’o in 2000, which was the heaviest wave ever ridden successfully. In addition to surfing, he is also a model, producer, TV host, inventor, author, stunt man, fitness and nutrition expert, and adrenaline junkie.
At the age of 17, he was discovered on the beach as a model and later became an accomplished surfer. In 1987, he appeared in the movie North Shore, where he showcased his pro-surfing skills. Together with his wife, professional volleyball player Gabrielle Reece, they created Extreme Performance Training which is a unique and powerful fitness training and lifestyle program. In 2008, Laird released a book called Force of Nature: Mind, Body, Soul, and, Of Course, Surfing, which was featured on the New York Times Bestseller list. He has also appeared in many surfing documentaries and feature films including Radical Attitude, Wake Up Call, Step into Liquid, and Riding Giants. As a stuntman he has appeared in Water World, Die Another Day, The Descendants, and in 2015’s Point Break starring Edgar Ramirez and Luke Bracey.
