Canadian indie music group Land of Talk was founded in Montreal, Quebec, in 2006. Elizabeth Powell, a guitarist and vocalist, is the band's frontwoman. Elizabeth Powell started her career as a solo performer under the stage name ELE K* before joining Land of Talk as the band's frontwoman. 2003 saw the release of her first album by indie Canadian label Sinistre Sound. Powell was raised in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, where she started creating music at the age of 14. She enrolled in Concordia University's jazz department, where she met Mark Wheaton and Chris McCarron, with whom she later co-founded Land of Talk. In May 2007, Eric Thibodeau took Wheaton's place on the drums to complete a new lineup. Additionally, organizations like the Canada Council Support for the Arts have provided funding for Land of Talk.
