Born on June 14, 1982, in Shenyang, China, Lang Lang is a Chinese concert pianist widely-celebrated for his exceptional talent and effortless flair. He started playing piano at the tender age of 3 and performed his first public recital after winning the Shenyang Piano Competition at the age of 5. He continued to win piano competitions left, right and center and left for the US to study at Curtis Institute of Music Philadelphia. Lang now enjoys a reputation as one of the world’s best musicians and has performed at BBC Prom, Grammy Awards, White House State Dinner (2011) as well as for international dignitaries including Barack Obama, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Vladimir Putin and many more.
His notable albums include Dragon Songs (2006), Liszt: My Piano Hero (2011), New York Rhapsody (2011) and The Chopin Album (2012) which also received 2013 Echo Klassik Award. In 2008, he launched the Lang International Music Foundation in New York to encourage and educate children who carry a passion for music.
Lang’s success saw him get crowned with several prestigious accolades and titles including Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2012) and United Nations Messenger of Peace (2013). He was also named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time’s Magazine in 2009. He also released his autobiography ‘Journey of a Thousand Miles’ in 2018.
