Born on the 16th of December 1992 to Nigerian parents, Lawrence Okolie is a professional boxer and author who currently resides in the United Kingdom. He was raised in the neighbourhood of Stoke Newington. He competed for Great Britain in the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. In the preliminary round of the heavyweight competition at the Rio Olympics, he earned a points victory over Igor Pawel Jakubowski of Poland in the heavyweight division. After that, he was defeated by Cuba's Erislandy Savon, who ultimately won the bronze medal. On January 18, 2017, Lawrence Okolie made public his intention to turn professional and to compete in the cruiserweight division after signing with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport. Since March of 2021, he has successfully defended his WBO cruiserweight title. Additionally, Okolie has held the Commonwealth cruiserweight title from 2018 until 2019, as well as the British cruiserweight title and the European cruiserweight title separately in 2019.
