Lay Zhang Bio
A vocalist for the boy band EXO, Lay Zhang was born in Changsha, Hunan, China on October 7, 1991. Lay, a local child star in Hunan, China, came in third in a 2005 competition held by the well-known TV show Star Academy. In the same year, he also made an appearance on an episode of Na Ke Bu Yi Yang, a variety show hosted by Yue Ce Yue Kai Xin and Liu Na. After a fruitful audition with the company’s global casting system in Changsha, Lay joined S.M. Entertainment in 2008. He was 16 years old and preparing for his college entrance exams at the time of the auditions. He served as Jonghyun’s dance replacement for SHINee in their concert tour in 2011 before making his EXO debut. On January 17, 2012, Lay was formally introduced as an EXO member. Along with Kai from EXO-K, he is a member of the dance crew S.M. The Performance.
