Leela James Bio
Born in Los Angeles, California, on June 2, 1983, Leela James grew up in a house where music was of high importance. Her father kept a massive collection of records from the ’60s and ’70s, something which inspired her and set her on the path to musical success as early as the 1990s. Though she encountered some obstacles when the company she was assigned to, RuffNation Records, went under, she nevertheless bounced back and released her debut album A Change is Gonna Come in June of 2005. The album sold more than 200,000 copies in the United States.
Since her debut, Leela James has gone on to release four more albums: Let’s Do it Again in 2009, this time under Shanachie Records, My Soul in 2010, Loving You More.. In the Spirit of Etta James in 2012, and Fall for You in 2014. Her album My Soul had the highest position on the U.S. R&B Charts, as it reached #7 shortly after its release.
