Rapper Lil Scrappy was born Darryl Kevin Richardson II in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 19, 1984. He was discovered by fellow rapper and producer Lil Jon while he was performing in his hometown in a bar. Lil Jon and 50 Cent helped the young rapper to produce his debut album Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live, which was released in December of 2006. The first single from the album “Money in the Bank” rose to the #28 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After gaining much attention for his work and the collaborations that he performed, such as with Young Buck, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, and Three 6 Mafia, Lil Scrappy decided to pursue the release of his second album independently.
Prince of the South was released in 2008, and was not under his previous label BME Records, followed by Prince of the South 2 in 2010. After releasing a few singles to promote his fourth album, Lil Scrappy released Tha Grustle (a combination of the words “hustle” and “grind”) in 2012 under the G’$ Up, S-Line label, a joint venture begun by Scrappy and his manager. The single “No Love” from the album did exceptionally well on YouTube, and gained him the attention he craved.
