Lila Downs Bio

Ana Lila Downs Sanchez (popularly known as just Lila Downs) is a Mexican actress, singer and songwriter who was born on September 9th 1968 in Tlaxiaco, Mexico. She was born and raised in Mexico. 

Lila started her rise to fame after she appeared in the 2002 film Frida and contributed to its soundtrack with the song Burn It Blue. The track was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Original Song. Her 2011 release Pecados y Miagros was a hit, winning both the Grammy and Latin Grammy. The album peaked at the top spot of the Latin Albums chart. She also released the commercially successful 1999 album La Sandunga. Lila appeared in the film Mariachi Gringo in 2012, working alongside Shawn Ashmore.
