Loretta Lynn was born as Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932 in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. She began her career teaching herself how to play guitar in 1953. Her husband later encouraged her to start a band with her guitar-playing brother, naming the act Loretta and the Trailblazers. She became part of the country music scene in the 1960s and released her first record, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,” in February of 1960.
Over her extensive career, she has received awards and accolades for everything from Grammy Awards for her 60 albums and she has an impressive 45 million record sales. She was deemed the First Lady of Country Music and she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988. In 1995, she won the Pioneer Award at the Academy of Country Music Awards. She began making music with her daughter in 2007 and has created several albums since then. Many up-and-coming country artists say that Loretta Lynn is one of their inspirations.
