Luke Theodore Walton, better known as Luke Walton, is a former professional basketball player turned successful NBA coach. He was born in San Diego, California, United States, on March 28, 1980.
Walton had a notable playing career in the NBA, primarily with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won two championships in 2009 and 2010. His journey into coaching began shortly after retiring as a player in 2013. Known for his high basketball IQ and leadership skills, Walton transitioned smoothly into coaching, eventually joining the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach in 2014. During his time with the Warriors, he contributed significantly to the team's historic 73-win season in 2016.
In 2016, Walton became the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, where he had the opportunity to work with superstar players like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. While with the Lakers, he showcased his coaching prowess, guiding the team through a rebuilding phase and earning recognition for his player development skills.
