Mad Professor is the stage name of Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser, a Guyanese-British record producer and music engineer. He was born on the 27th of March, 1955, in Georgetown, Guyana. He is recognized as a pioneer in dub’s and jungle music. He emigrated to England as a teenager and in 1979, he opened his recording studio called Ariwa Sounds. His studio started recording rock bands like Deborahe Glasgow. In the 1980s, Ariwa sound released major reggae and dub artists such as Macka B, Johnny Clarke, Pato Banton, and Peter Culture. As Mad Professor, Fraser has released hundreds of original records, such as “A Caribbean Taste of Technology”, “True Born African Dub”, “Trix in The Mix”, and many more. His “Black Liberation” series are specially acclaimed, both for its powerful lyrics and jungle rhythms. Mad Professor is known for customising his own equipment, which is part of his unique sound.
