Major Lazer Bio
Major Lazer is a Jamaican American electronic dancehall band founded by DJ duo Diplo and Switch in 2008, soon joined by Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. Diplo and Switch first met while working with M.I.A., and they released their debut album recorded in Jamaica and called “Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do” in 2009. The album featured collaborations with a wide variety of musicians and singers, such as Nina Sky, Kartel, Santigold, Prince Zimboo and many others. The album was released under Diplo’s label Mad Decent and Downtown Records. From there on, it was a race to the top for the band, as they have produced and remixed for superstars like Beyoncé and Ariana Grande. One of their major hits was “Lean On” and “Cold Water” both released in 2016.
