Maksim Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian-American dancer, choreographer, and instructor born in Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union on January 17, 1980. He is best known for being a professional dancer on the television show Dancing with the Stars. He became a member of the show on the second season and has been competing for 17 seasons. He has made it to the final round five times and has been the runner-up two times and came in third two times. In 2014 he won his first season with the Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis. Chmerkovskiy competes at a professional level in the International Latin category with Elena Grinenko. As a professional dancer he has won the titles Ohio Star Ball Latin Champion in 2003, All England Champion in 2003, World Masters Finalist in 2004, Nevada Star Ball Champion in 2004, Yankee Classic Professional Latin Champion in 2005, Blackpool Dance Festival Semi-Finalist in 2005 and others. Chmerkovskiy also owns several dance studios around New York under the brand Dance With Me. He has performed on Broadway in the productions Burn the Floor, and Forever Tango.
