German-born Manuel Neuer, also known as Manuel Peter Neuer, was born in Gelsenkirchen on March 27, 1986. The top goalkeeper in soccer is a German player who contributed to Germany's World Cup victory in 2014. He was named the best goalkeeper in the competition and won the Golden Glove award for his efforts. FC Bayern Munich signed Neuer in June 2011. Due to the intense rivalry between Bayern and Schalke, many fans were initially dissatisfied. However, Neuer was able to win them over by surpassing Oliver Kahn's record of more than 1,000 shutout minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká of Real Madrid had their penalties saved by Neuer during the Champions League 2011–12 competition. In the final against Chelsea, Neuer even scored in another shootout, despite Bayern losing the game.
