Marc Almond, born as Peter Mark Sinclair “Marc” Almond on July 9, 1957, in South Port, England, is an English singer and songwriter. His music career began with him and Dave Ball forming the duo called Soft Cell. They described their musical style as synthpop and new wave. Their hits included What!, Soul Inside, Tainted Love, and many others. In 1984 he released his first solo album called Vermin in Ermine which earned him huge success. In the 1990s he would release more albums and go on extended tours with his tour in Russia and Siberia by invitation of the British consul in Moscow being one of his most popular ones. Over the years of his career, Marc Almond has collaborated with many famous artists. One of those collaborations was the duet with Gene Pitney called Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart which was charted as UK Number One hit in 1989. He has sold over 30 million records worldwide and in 2018 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 New Year Honors.
