Mark Gatiss was born October 17, 1966 in Sedgefield, County Durham, England. Mark graduated with a BA with honors in Theatre Arts from Bretton Hall Drama College. Mark is an actor, screenwriter, novelist, comedian and playwright. He is known for acting in and writing for the TV series Doctor Who and Sherlock. He is a member of The League of Gentlemen comedy team. He is known for being in HBO series Game of Thrones in the role of Tycho Nestoris. In 2003 Mark earned an honorary doctorate of letters from the University of Huddersfield. When Doctor Who was reborn in 2005, Mark was included in the writing team. He was also a co-creator of Sherlock with Steven Moffat. He co-wrote plays for the Edinburgh Festival. Mark has also appeared on several theatre and radio shows. Most recently in 2015 Gatiss played the secretary Stephen Gardiner in BBC’s series Wolf Hall. In January 2017 he plays the part of Prince Regent (later George IV) in the TV historical drama series Taboo.
