Mark Wills is an American country music artist born in Cleveland, Tennessee on August 8, 1973. As a teenager he played in garage bands, but as he got older switched to making country music. At 17 years old he won a local talent contest in Marietta, Georgia and started touring locally. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee and was working as a demo singer. Wills was noticed by record producers and was signed with the label Mercury Records Nashville. He released his debut studio album in 1996 self-titled Mark Wills. In 1998 Wills won an Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Male Vocalist. With Mercury Records he continued to release the albums Wish You Were Here, Permanently, Loving Every Minute, and And the Crowd Goes Wild. In 2004 he left Mercury Records and signed with Equity Music Group in 2006. In 2008 he released his first album with Equity titled Familiar Stranger and followed it up in 2011 with Looking for America. Wills made his acting debut in 2000 in the film Tom Sawyer.
