Marty Stuart Bio

John Marty Stuart is a Grammy Award-winning American country singer-songwriter born on September 30, 1958, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, United States. He became a defining voice of the ’80s country music with his remarkable talent of seamlessly blending bluegrass, honky-tonky, and rockabilly elements with country-rock music. Stuart nurtured a great love for guitar and mandolin as a child and started out with a bluegrass group The Sullivan Family. After his stints with a couple of other bands, he released his solo album “With a Little Help From My Friends” in 1979. He also briefly worked with Johnny Cash’s backing band but left to pursue his solo career. His first few albums didn’t make much noise but in 1990, Stuart finally found his commercial breakthrough with his album Hillbilly Rock. From then on he continued to produce multiple hit albums including Tempted” (1991) and This One’s Gonna Hurt You” (1992). He married Grand Ole Opry star Connie Smith in 1997. He also hosted The Marty Stuart Show that aired from 2008 – 2014 and featured popular stars such as Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Keith Urban, and Lyle Lovett.
