Massive Attack Bio

Massive Attack is an electronic music duo based out of Bristol, England specializing in the trip hop genre. The group’s members consist of Robert Del Naja, born January 21st, 1965 in Bristol, England, and Daddy G, born as Grantley Evan Marshall on December 18th, 1959.  The duo began making music together in 1988 with their first single, “Any Love” featuring Carlton McCarthy. The single was released independently and caught the attention of Circa Records.

In 1990 Massive Attack signed to Circa Records for 6 studio albums and a “best of” compilation. In 1991 they released their debut album called Blue Lines. The single “Manchild” peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. In the same year they released a single called “Unfinished Sympathy” with Will Malone. The song went on to be voted the 10th Greatest Song of All Time in a reader poll by The Guardian. In 1994 they released their next album called Protection. The music video for the single of the same name won an MTV Music Video Award for Best Video in 1995.

1998 saw Massive Attack release a new album called Mezzanine. The album won a Q Award for Best Album. 2008 brought another Q Award to Massive Attack for Innovation in Sound. They released two more albums in 2003 and 2010 entitled 100th Window and Heligoland.
