Matt Carpenter was born as Matthew Martin Lee Carpenter in Galveston, Texas on November 26, 1985. He went to the Texas Christian University where he helped lead his team to an appearance in the College World Series. He also broke the school record for at-bats and games played.
The St. Louis Cardinals picked him in the 2009 MLB Draft. He was the Player of the Year by the Cardinal’s organization in 2010. He played for A-level teams such as the Quad Cities River Bandits, Batavia Muckdogs, and Palm Beach Cardinals during his professional season. He has been an All-Star Pick in 2013, 2014 and 2016. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2013.
He has been the team’s primary leadoff hitter since the 2013 season.
