Matthijs de Ligt is a professional soccer player born in Leiderdorp, Netherlands, on August 12, 1999. He spent his youth career at Abcoude (2005–2009) and Ajax (2009–2016). He appeared in 17 matches for Jong Ajax between 2016 and 2017, scoring one goal. Matthijs played for Netherlands U15, U16, U17, and U19 teams.
While at Ajax, the team was runner-up at the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League and won the 2018/19 Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. Matthijs scored eight goals in 87 appearances for Juventus between 2019 and 2022. He won the 2019/20 Serie A, the 2020/21 Coppa Italia, and the 2020 Supercoppa Italiana with the team.
Matthijs joined Bayern Munich in 2022, winning the 2022 DFL-Supercup with the team. He has made 38 appearances for the Netherlands national team. The team was runner-up at the 2019 UEFA Nations League. He has won the ABN AMRO Future Cup Best Player, Copa Amsterdam Best Player, Ajax Talent of the Future (Sjaak Swart Award), Ajax Talent of the Year (Marco van Basten Award), Johan Cruyff Trophy, and Dutch Footballer of the Year.
