Maurício Milani Rua, also known as "Shogun", is a Brazilian professional mixed-martial-arts (MMA) fighter born in 1981 in Curitiba. He started to train at the Chute Boxe academy at the age of 16 following the example of his older brother Murilo Ninja and has a background in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu. He worked as a model before committing to MMA fighting full-time in 2002. He made his MMA debut at a "Vale Tudo'' championship, defeating Rafael Freitas. In 2005 he won the PRIDE GRAND PRIX title after defeating Quinton Jackso, Rogerio Minotoro Nogueira, and Ricardo Arona. He joined the Universidade da Luta team in 2008, and the Kings MMA team in 2014. Rua is a former UC Light Heavyweight Champion and is part of the UFC Hall of Fame.
