Mavado Bio

Reggae singer-songwriter Mavado, was born David Constantine Brooks on November 30th 1981 in Kingston, Jamaica. Mavado was mentored by Bounty Killer, who introduced him to the legendary manager, Julian Jones-Griffith. Mavado’s first single, Real McKoy, laid the groundwork for his follow-up smash hit Weh Dem a Do. With his tracks gaining momentum, he released his next album, Gangster for Life, which included the hits Top Shotta Nah Miss, and Dying. The hit album included a new mix of his hit Real McKoy, which was featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto 4: Liberty City. The reggae singer crossed over into the hip-hop world featuring in a remix of I’m on the Rock with Jay-Z, which was reworked as We Need Barack. Mavado continued crossing over into the world of hip-hop, appearing on 50 Cent and G-Unit’s album; Snoop Dogg’s track Lighters Up; and featuring Nicki Minaj on his single, Give It All to Me.
