Born in 1970, MC Lyte (Lana Michelle Moorer) is an American hip hop artist from Brooklyn, New York, USA. She made a name for herself as a MC, mixing popular songs and letting her talent be known to all. Starting out on stage under the moniker “Sparkle” when she was just fourteen years old, she recorded her first single “I Cram to Understand U (Sam).” The track was released two years later to positive reviews. Her first studio album “Lyte as a Rock” was released in 1988 and her most recent album “Legend” was released in 2015. MC Lyte was nominated for two Grammys. Once in 1993 for best rap solo performance for her single “Ruffneck” and again in 2003 for best female rap vocal performance for her single “Ride Wit Me.” MC Lyte has been associated with DeBose Music Group, East West America/Elektra Records, and Atlantic Records.
