Melina Matsoukas was born in January 14, 1981 on. Her earliest work as a director include music videos such as Ludacris‘ 2006 track “Money Maker” featuring Pharrell. She also worked in Ne-Yo‘s “Because of You,” Jennifer Lopez‘s “Hold It Don’t Drop It,” and Leona Lewis‘ “Bleeding Love.” She worked on Beyoncé’s “Kitty Kat” and “Suga Mama” where the singer acted as her co-director. Her work on “Formation” also bagged numerous awards from MTV Music Awards in 2016, the UK Music Awards, Webby Award for Best Music Video, and a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.
She worked on the music video for Rihanna‘s “We Found Love” featuring Calvin Harris. The track also won a Grammy Award. She appeared in Master of None (2017) and Insecure (2016). She worked with various companies for commercials including Target, Diesel, Adidas, Lexus, and Nike.
