Melissa Manchester is a singer born on 15th February 1951 in New York City, United States. Her passion for music began at a young age. She learned how to play the piano and harpsichord in school and started singing commercial jingles when she was 15. She went on to study songwriting in college before and later performed in the Manhattan club scene, where she was introduced to singer and actress Bette Midler with her friend Barry Manilow.
Manchester released her first album “Home to Myself” in 1973. She co-wrote most of the songs in the album with Carole Bayer Sager. In 1975, she released the album “Melissa”, which contained the single “Midnight Blue” which made it to the Billboard Hot 100 charts and stayed there for 17 weeks. Her single “Come in From the Rain” from her 1976 album “Better Days & Happy Endings” has been covered by many artists, including Shirley Horn, Mel Torme, Diana Ross, and others. She went on to release top charting albums, like “Don’t Cry Out Loud” in 1978, and “For the Working Girl” in 1980, just to mention a few.
