Meshuggah is a Swedish extreme metal band formed in Umea, Sweden, in 1987. The current members of the band are Jens Kidman on lead vocals, Fredrik Thordendal on lead guitar and backing vocals, Marten Hagstrom on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Dick Lovgren on bass guitar, and Tomas Haake on spoken vocals and drums. Their sound is described as a mixture of death metal, thrash metal, progressive metal, and jazz fusion. They released their debut EP in 1989 self-titled Meshuggah and have since released the EPs None, Selfcaged, The True Human Design, I, and Pitch Black. In 1991 they released their debut studio album titled Contradictions Collapse. They have also released the albums Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, Nothing, Catch Thirtythree, obZen, Koloss, and The Violent Sleep of Reason. The band has released eight studio albums, six EPs, two live albums, and one compilation album. Several of their albums have charted on the Billboard 200 and on other charts around the world. They have won a Loudwire Music Award, a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award, and a Decibel Magazine Award.
