King Mez, born Morris W. Ricks II, is a rapper from Raleigh, North Carolina who has been active since the 2010s. He released his debut full-length mixtape, My Everlasting Zeal, in 2012. The mixtape was promoted with the successful single “Monte Carlo,” which had debuted on music video show 106 And Park.The music video for the song was spread, gaining attention from the likes of Shady’s label. Shortly after, Mez signed a six-figure deal with Warner/Chappell Music. He released his next tape, Long Live the King, in 2014 to his newly amassed audience. The success of single “Can’t Let Go,” earned him the eye of Dr. Dre, who recruited him for his album Compton. King Mez featured on three tracks on the long-awaited comeback record, prompting his discovery by the legions of fans of Dr. Dre.
