Mia Hamm Bio
Mia Hamm is a former American soccer player born in Selma, Alabama on March 17, 1972. She is considered one of the best female soccer players in history. She played with the U.S. National soccer team for 17 years and won the Women’s World cup in 1991 and 1999 and received two gold medals at the Olympics in 1996 and 2004. Her career in soccer started at the age of 15 when she landed a spot on the U.S. National team, she was the youngest person to ever join the team. In 1991 she was the youngest player to win a World Cup at the age of 19. In 1999 she set a record for the most international goals that she kept until 2013 when Abby Wambach broke it. She is also involved in philanthropy, starting the Mia Hamm Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds and awareness for bone marrow research.
